Ok I want to clarify one of my other main issues with this type of media, by focusing on the female character more and drawing away from the males character it degrades both in harmful ways. For the female character, she is objectified and sexualised. For the male character, he is reduced to some lustful heathen who just wants to have sex. Additionally, the self-insert part of all of this makes you subconsciously note that for sexy or beautiful women, men will always have their way with them. No matter who. This is what is expressed by making it so anyone can put themselves in this situation and decide for themselves what to do with this woman.
I agree, but I think that most men recognize this situation as unrealist. The idea that reading th comic will lead to men being more.. approachful of a woman, assuming that they will have the same reaction as the female charachter in the comic, is super overstated. At most, you could make an argument that the comic steers readers slightly in the direction of a patriarchal worldview.
By drawing away from characterising the male, it focuses more on this attractive woman being submissive / in this situation of being dominated by a male. By not having a clear character to submit to, it defaults to the gender itself; men. For the female character, she is objectified and sexualised. For the male character, he is reduced to some lustful heathen who just wants to have sex. Additionally, the self-insert part of all of this makes you subconsciously note that for sexy or beautiful women, men will always have their way with them. No matter who. This is what is expressed by making it so anyone can put themselves in this situation and decide for themselves what to do with this woman.
I agree, but I think that most men recognize this situation as unrealist. The idea that reading th comic will lead to men being more.. approachful of a woman, assuming that they will have the same reaction as the female charachter in the comic, is super overstated. At most, you could make an argument that the comic steers readers slightly in the direction of a patriarchal worldview.
By drawing away from characterising the male, it focuses more on this attractive woman being submissive / in this situation of being dominated by a male. By not having a clear character to submit to, it defaults to the gender itself; men. Meaning that this genre of media not only perpetuates the message that woman are to be dominated by men, but also promotes that its viewers seek to accomplish this outcome themselves.
